Featured piece: Converse Ad

In this advertisement, I wanted to emphasize the timeless nature of Converse’s Chuck 70, which has proven to be a very popular silhouette throughout history. In order to do so, I superimposed an image of the shoe over a collage of images of individuals wearing some variation of the high top Chuck 70 from a number of decades. Pictured in the collage are vintage advertisements from the 60s, images of rock-n-roll band members, and older athletes, as well as more modern photos, such as Timothee Chalamet wearing Converse at the Met Gala and social media influencers styling the shoe. Playing on the common practice of writing messages on one’s midsoles, the phrase “TRENDS CHANGE. WE DON’T.” is transcribed along the side of the shoe. This message reiterates the fact that the Chuck 70 is a sneaker that stands the test of time and that trends change around it, not the other way around. Thus, the audience is left with the idea that buying a pair of Converse is a worthy investment, as they will remain in style for years to come.
